Wednesday, November 02, 2005 - Birthday Boy!
Thank you all for the birthday cards, messages and gifts. As you can tell from the photo, Rob had a very festive birthday. He chose Boston Market as his dinner (an odd choice if you ask me) and topped it off with a Carvel ice cream cake. We spent much of the evening listening to music and whispering the words to the songs so we did not disturb Rob’s roommates. Neil Diamond’s Soolaman(sp?) even got him dancing for a bit. It reminded me of those karaoke marathons we used to have where I would replay the song a zillion times. Rob-for those who don’t know has an amazing ability to memorize lyrics and he spent much of our ‘early’ dating years teaching me lyrics to reggae songs. Things have not changed to say the least. As far as Rob’s progress..drumroll please....yesterday, he was able to wiggle his right toes for the first time. He was also able to transfer himself from the wheelchair to the mat with minimal assistance. Today, he tried the tilt board (which slowly brings him up to a vertical position) and he was able to get to a 70% incline in 45 minutes. Last time he tried it took him 1 hr 45 minutes and he was only able to get to 40%. The tilt table is quite a vision, I’ll try to get a photo of it soon. OH, I also posted a few new photos from this weekend. As for bad news for the week, Cigna denied his shower chair today which means I have to initiate the appeal process. Apparently, they do not believe it is medically necessary to take a shower. Wish me luck with the process. I’ve contacted Fox 5 problem solvers; hopefully they will be interested in taking the piece. This is certainly only the beginning…
