Saturday, December 31, 2005 - Left Thumb Wakes Up
So ends Week 11 at Kessler. Rob had a great week. He moved his left thumb yesterday which is the first significant movement on his left side to date. He was also able to do a weight shift by himself without using his arms. This means he has regained at least some of his balance and trunk control back. His doctors and therapists are very impressed and aren’t sure now what their long term goals for him will be. No word from the insurance company..no news is good new where they are concerned. We are hoping for another day pass next weekend so that Rob can test out the new flooring which is being installed next week.

Saturday, December 24, 2005 - Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas!!!! We hope you all have a wonderful holiday. Thank you for all the love and support you have given us this year. I can’t imagine how we would have survived these last few months without you all. We do hope that 2006 brings lots of good news and progress. We are at home today enjoying a fire and some lobster, crab legs and shrimp-(yes, we are pretending to be italian). We’ve posted some VERY FUNNY and INTERESTING photos that were taken today. Needless to say, Rob was ‘bonding’ with my brothers, Braden and Kyle who wanted to see what ‘life’ was like for Rob-you’ll see what I mean when you see the photos. Make sure you check out the before and after shots and please share your comments. As for this weeks update, Rob walked 75 feet with the Light Gate (up from 33 feet last week). The good news is that his right leg was doing 90% of the work and required very little assistance from his therapists. His left tricep muscle also starting to fire this week which is odd because his left side has historically been weaker. His occupational therapist is going to start stimulating his right tricep with electricity in hopes it will ‘wake up’. His doctor has labeled Rob as “the hardest worker at Kessler”. A few of his buddies were discharged this week so Rob has officially been there the longest-which will be 4 months on December 26th. I sometimes can’t believe it has been 4 months since his accident. He’s made a tremendous amount of progress thus far but has a long way to go until he will be independent. I start my new job next week which will make it very difficult to see Rob as regularly as I do now. Please pray for my patience during this transition. Take care everyone!!!
