Monday, January 09, 2006 - Kiwanis Account Closing
KIWANIS UPDATE
It is with regret that I must report that we will be closing the Kiwanis account. We have had multiple issues with the club, who as it turns out was not prepared to handle this type of venture. We learned very recently that the account will only be open for one year and if there is any money left over at that time, they cannot guaruntee that it will be returned to us. Additionally, the Kiwanis have been untimely in notifying us of the donations that have been made to date and they have asked that we provide written proof of how the money is being spent. For these reasons, we are asking that no further donations be made to the Kiwanis fund. Please know that we do trust that the Kiwanis will give us all of the money that has been donated thus far. I have sent thank you notes to those of you who have donated (as a way to confirm the receipt of the donation). If you have not yet received a thank you note, it may simply mean that the Kiwanis has not yet notified me of the donation. I hope to acquire a full list of the donations in the next few weeks and I will send any acknowledgements that have not yet been sent. I am also considering posting the names of those who have donated on this site as a way of confirmation. I apologize IMMENSLEY for this mishap. I am so disappointed in the Kiwanis and embarressed that my acknowledgements of your donations have been delayed. If you have any concerns about your specific donation, please feel free to contact me at mandyheller@yahoo.com. Though, please give me a few weeks to compile the list from Kiwanis and send the notes. Thank you all!!!

Sunday, January 08, 2006 - Discharge Date Pending
INSURANCE UPDATE
On Thursday, January 5th I received a voicemail from our insurance representative stating that the last covered day for Rob’s inpatient stay was Friday, January 6th. Our doctor at Kessler successfully advocated on his behalf and aquired another week. Therefore, Rob’s discharge date as it stands now is Friday, January 13th. We are planning to appeal this decision tomorrow but it does not appear likely that we will win. I have had multiple conversations with Rob’s insurance carrier and they will not be able to provide any in home health services for us, stating that if Rob is well enough to participate in outpatient physical therapy then he is well enough to be unattendend at home. This means that we will have to pay out of pocket for any home health services we require. Additionally, the insurance company has maintained that they will only be providing 60 days of outpatient therapy (60 days in a row not total). This means that we will have to pay for all outpatient therapy after 2 months which is $120 per session. I present this information to you all so that you can send good vibes/prayers our way. It is essential for Rob to receive intensive physical and occupational therpay on a regular basis and our insurance is making it impossible for him to do so. I will update you all regarding the outcome of our appeal process later this week-though I am preparing for a very stressful week (on top of adjusting to my new job). Rob remains in good spirits though he is in an INCREDIBLE amount of pain which we are thinking has more to do with the cold weather than anything else. While he would love to be reunited with me and the pets at home, he knows it is in his best interest to remain at Kessler where he is receiving the care he requires. Please pray for his pain tolerance and patience!!!!
