Friday, April 07, 2006 - Hurt Back
Hello everyone - This is Rob’s Mom writing. I volunteered to write the update today since I have just spent a few days wih Rob and Mandy having not seen them for almost six weeks. I see great improvements in both his strength and flexibility. He is able to transfer in and out of his chair much more easily. He has marked improvement in his right leg being able to move it now without using his upper body strength to do so. He has started a course of shiatsu massage which is really helping to wake up nerves and muscles particularly in his legs and abdomen. He is now on three days a week of therapy at Kessler. Today he rode a stationary bike for about ten minutes with his right leg providing most of the power. His therapists are very pleased with his progress and are now talking about “when you walk...”. Rob and I went to a Sports Expo at Kessler on Wed. and he got a lot of information on adaptive equipment and opportunities for team sports. Unfortunately Mandy hurt her back this week. She has been in some pain and had to stay home from work for a few days. She is seeing a chiropractor as well as taking medication. The big problem is getting her to take it easy. The woman is always in motion! I also want to take this opportunity to thank all my friends in Rotary for their magnificent efforts on behalf of Rob and Mandy. They recently held a raffle and raised over $14,000 to help with home renovations and medical expenses. We are truly blessed with wonderful friends and family.
