Monday, June 05, 2006 - Action Packed Weekend

Well folks we had another marathon weekend!

On Saturday we headed into NYC for a broadway show (thanks to Pat) and spent the night at Hotel Pennsylvania. It was an enormous production checking into the hotel as we had Marley, the wheelchair, the Escape and all the luggage. We were initially checked into a non handicapped accessible room which was later changed. Once we were in the appropriate room, it was smooth sailing. Rob met up with Clint and wheeled around the West Village and then we had dinner with our girlfriend Pam (photos posted).

On Sunday, Rob and Marley went to Wayne and El’s for a BBQ while I attended a bridal shower. I don’t think Rob has ever eaten so much which is a good thing, considering he lost 4 pounds last week. His appetite has been horrible these days which places him at great risk for pressure sores. His doctor and I have given him 2 weeks to gain weight or he is going to have to start taking an appetite stimulant.

On a positive note, Rob has weaned himself completely off the Oxicontin and Ultram (both pain meds). Yeah for Robbie!!!! He is now working on decreasing the Baclofen (for spasms) and Florinef (for blood pressure). As far as progress goes, yesterday when he was getting into the car he was able to utilize his right leg to do a pivot transfer. He even lifted his right leg (as if to step backwards) in order to get closer to the vehicle. Wayne and El were witness to this and we are all clapping. Today, he had major blood pressure issues in therapy so he is feeling unmotivated, tired and sad. Good thing he has his trainer coming tomorrow to ‘pump him up’. Looking forward to seeing many of you this weekend for the racesmile
