Monday, June 05, 2006 - Run For Robbie Final Update
RUN 4 ROBBIE FINAL UPDATE:
Hello All,
Well Run 4 Robbie is finally upon us, all that hard work, the sweat and anguish that Mandy and Rob have gone through over the last 10 months will now turn to us. Whether you will be running or walking, dancing or talking, your efforts to make this day happen are tremendous! Donations are still coming in daily and many of you are still continuing your efforts. It is very comforting to see how receptive people are and how caring! Here are the details for the day:
THE RACE
Looks like the forecast is calling for perfect racing weather in the 70’s (p.s. last year it was 95 and very humid). As you know the race begins at 8:00am. Parking is located in the Lake Mohawk Country Club parking lot. If you have not pre-registered the cost to walk up is $15.00. Please be sure to arrive early so that you leave ample time to check in with the Sparta Parks and Recreation to obtain your race number AND to check in with the Run 4 Robbie table to obtain your race t-shirt, dinner bracelet and hand in any last minute donations.
RECOVERY FROM THE RACE
There will be plenty of time between the race and the dinner to celebrate your run placement and collect your trophies or take a nap. If you have any energy left, Northwestern NJ is BEAUTIFUL and there are several lakes and trails to explore. Kittatiny Valley State Park is located about 10 minutes from Sparta. There will also be a Sparta Day Festival going on all day at the Sparta Library located at 22 Woodport Road, Sparta just minutes from the race site. Also, for those that are staying in the hotel in Newton, there will be a Newton Day Festival on Spring Street, which is the “main drag” in Newton.
THE DINNER
As you know the dinner begins at 5pm and goes until 9pm, where I am sure we will all mill around and possibly move the party to the local pub, Kroghs which is right next door. Dress for the dinner should be business casual: for the men: khakis or dress slacks and a polo or button up. Just a reminder, if you decided to just attend the dinner/party and did not fund raise the cost is $60 payable at the door (if you have not already RSVP’s for the dinner please email me ASAP as the caterer needs to have an accurate head count).
DONATIONS
If you have fund raised but have yet to send in your money please send an email to me at ryanwellner@yahoo.com to let me know. If you have not received an email from me alerting you that I received your donations than it means I am still awaiting them and will be on the look out. I am sorting through ALOT of mail and much of it is your envelopes, now I know how important people feel
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me: ryanwellner@yahoo.com and I look forward to thanking you all personally for all your hard work, and more importantly celebrating the hard work of both Mandy and Rob and their family and friends.
All my best,
Ryan Wellner

Friday, June 02, 2006 - Blood Pressure Takes a Dive
We posted a photo of Rob on the standing frame which was taken today at Kessler. It isn’t the clearest photo because it was taken with a camera phone but should give you an idea of how it works. Rob was able to stand for about 10 minutes today until his blood pressure took a dive (standing frames cost about $4500 for those who have asked). We are ordering one that will also move Rob’s legs in a similar fashion to what an elliptical machine would. Today we also had a dr’s appointment and Rob’s MD said she would be writing a prescription for driving school. Lord help us when he hits the road again! His MD was also VERY impressed with the strength in his right leg and said she would be writing a note to his therapists to increase the intensity of his sessions to focus on standing and taking a step or two. This was a MAJOR break through with our MD because historically speaking she has not felt that standing was a priority for Rob. So, hopefully this will change the focus of therapy going forward. That’s it for now!!!!
