Thursday, July 13, 2006 - Project Walk Update
I added some more photos of Rob working out at Project Walk. I"m trying to get at least one photo of him on each machine. Thank goodness care pages has expanded their photo gallery
Today, Rob’s major battle was with his blood pressure. He had to stop several exercises because he was about to pass out. He was a trooper though and got back up as soon as he was able. He is developing all kinds of new sensation and he was even able to kick out his left leg (as if to kick a soccer ball) this afternoon. His trainer also interviewed him about the day of the accident for his bio on the project walk website. We’ll definitely let everyone know when it’s posted. Tonight, we went out for Mexican food but had to leave halfway through the meal because Rob developed a horrible headache and sensitivity to light (migraine?). He’s now sleeping soundly in bed (he went to sleep at 6:30pm CA time). Poor guy...as if the paralysis wasn’t enough!!! We hope to do a little sight seeing this weekend if Rob is up for it. We’ll let you know how it goes. Please pray for Rob’s strength, endurance and pain tolerance during this time of intense training.

Sunday, July 09, 2006 - We’ve Landed
WE’VE LANDED!!!!!
The flight to CA wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be. The staff of Continental was very friendly and helpful. Thankfully, we were able to cut all the security and check in lines but since we were the first to board and last to get off the plane, the trip took much longer then it normally would. Rob was in a significant amount of pain for most of the trip, largely because he was stuck in the seat for 6 hours straight. He slept a lot of the time though. We did sit directly behind Dave Justice and Kathleen Turner, though we didn’t know it at the time (the flashy diamond bracelets tipped us off enough to ask the staff who they were). So...all went well until we arrived at the hotel and realized we were short one bag, one very important bag as it turns out. The bag that was left in baggage claim at the airport contained all of Rob’s intermittent catherization kits and our toiletries. We now await a delivery from Continental (thank goodness they provide this service because we are exhausted from the flight). Things never go down without a hitch in the Wall family. The hotel is nice and very accessible. We are trying to figure out how we can get Rob into the pool. The accessible van is cool, but strapping Rob’s wheelchair down to the floor is a huge pain in the butt. Tomorrow Rob starts therapy at 12:30pm. Thankfully, we have internet access in the room so we’ll provide updates as frequently as we can. We are hoping to do some sight seeing but aren’t sure what we’ll be able to do. My vacation ritual is to go through all the ‘activity’ brochures and map out the schedule for the week. It was a little tough this time around because most activities one typically enjoys on vacation require working legs. Needless to say, my pile of brochures is smaller than normal and it was a depressing reminder that our vacations will never be the same (before Rob’s accident we always took full advantage of the ‘things to do’at each destination). Just when we think we are finally used to how our lives have changed, a silly pile of ‘nearby attraction’ brochures smacks us in the face. Oh well.....there’s always Kabbalah (when in Rome......)
