Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - Back from Vegas Baby

The photo gallery has been updated with a few photos from our trip. Overall, we had a really nice time. It was a bit of a nightmare getting settled at the hotel because despite our confirming a reservation for a wheelchair accessible room-there wasn’t one available when we arrived (figures right?). So we slept in a very inaccessible room the first night and switched to a completely accessible timeshare on the same property Thanksgiving morning. It wasn’t the greatest start to our trip but we moved on quickly. We sent some time at the Bellagio, Venetian, Rio and Aladdin. We actually didn’t do much gambling but we did a lot of eating and drinking! The drive was okay...lots of traffic we really didn’t expect but Marley was great about being in the car. Yesterday we spent the day at Balboa park with our friend Kelly from MWC and our cousin Kim. Both of them depart tomorrow :( Today, Rob resumed his regimin at Project Walk but he wasn’t able to take any steps, presumably because he hadn’t worked out in 5 days. Hopefully, he’ll be on his feet again by the end of the week. Lots to do this week as we are picking up his AFO on Wednesday and doing preop tests for Lasix surgery which is scheduled for Friday. We are so happy that Rob is a candidate for the surgery because he can’t put in or take out his contacts due to his limited hand function and he keeps dropping his glasses and can’t pick them up. I think we are both a little nervous given our seemingly poor luck but the doctor seems confident that despite Rob’s spasms the surgery will go off without a hitch. We’ll keep you posted!!!

Friday, November 24, 2006 - Heading to Vegas

Happy Thanksgiving! Rob and I have been having a difficulty ‘getting into the season’ because it is about 80 degrees here so we’ve decided to embrace the change and head to Vegas for a few days!!! We won’t be taking our laptops with us so we just wanted to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. We are heading out as soon as we can pack the car. Vegas is about a 5 hour drive from Carlsbad so we should arrive sometime this evening. We plan to return to Carlsbad Saturday morning. Hopefully we’ll find a restaurant that is serving turkey tomorrow. Not too much to report in terms of Rob’s recovery this week. It has been a bit of a rough few days for Rob emotionally and physically. Despite his really hard work he had trouble doing certain exercises over the last two days. He feels as though he is on the verge of a reaching a plateau in his recovery which naturally scares the hell out of him. It remains quite difficult for us to be separated from our cats and home and I think we are both tired of our lives being on hold while we continue to fight this injury. With all the positive things that have happened for Rob since our arrival in CA, we still have days where we are reminded about how much has changed and how some things will never be the same. Hopefully the festivities of Vegas will cheer us up because we certainly need it! Take Care everyone....we hope to return to lots of fun messagessmile
