Saturday, November 04, 2006 - Rob’s Birthday
Hello All- Thank you all for the birthday emails, cards and messages. Rob had a little difficulty wrapping his head around the fact that he was injured when he was 27 years old and now at age 29 he is well....still injured. He did have a wonderful birthday at Project Walk which included him getting his tricep muscles back and taking another lap around the gym with the walker. This time I was able to watch him and I can definitely attest to the fact it is a HUGE improvement. He only needs 2 trainers now to help him with the walker instead of three. Rob was also able to use a machine called ‘the climber’ for 15 minutes. A few weeks ago he couldn’t even use the climber at all. I think I even saw a little sweat forming on his eyebrow when he was finished (Rob hasn’t sweat since the injury). In other news....Rob has been given an ‘official’ slot at the Steps to Recovery event next Friday (I think there will be about 15 walkers total with varying degrees of ability). He’ll be starting at 4:45pm but for those that are attending it is probably a good idea to come at 3:00 to cheer the other clients on and spend some time chatting with Rob. At the event, they will be debuting the new fundraising video for Proj. Walk which includes Rob and I as narrators. We watched the final product yesterday and it was great....definitely will get the tears rolling once you all see it. This video is geared for potential Proj. Walk donors but the tech guy will be putting together Rob’s personal video after the event. So.....lots of good stuff all around. Today, Rob just got out of bed at 1pm...I think the week of working out really wiped him out. He is having a ton of spasms lately especially in his legs and some low blood pressure to contend with but all in all he is doing well. This afternoon we are heading to Proj. Walk for a quick workout and then later we are going to meet some friends from MWC for dinner. Should be fun!!!!

Wednesday, November 01, 2006 - Happy Halloween
Happy Halloween! Rob and I celebrated by drinking some Vampire wine from Transylvania and listening to haunted music in the dark. Rob has been trying to spook me all night and it was really working. He dressed up as the Tin Man for Proj. Walk today (it’s a joke among the trainers). Everyone loved it. I posted a photo of him with his lead trainer in the gallery along with some others I’ve taken over the last few weeks. Rob has been feeling great lately- his appetite has increased, he is sleeping through the night and his pain has been tolerable. Still some emotional ups and downs but they are becoming less frequent. The excellent news is that today at Proj. Walk Rob was able to walk around the entire gym using a walker. He needed 3 trainers to assist him but his left leg was definitely extending and his hip extensors were firing. We are planning on ordering a walker so he can practice at home (not sure how that will go but we’ll see). Rob was very pleased with his performance today. Unfortunately, I missed it though b/c I was bathing a very muddy Marley:( I am sure he will do it again on Thursday though. We are now in the process of ordering a new wheelchair as Rob’s is currently fitted very poorly to his body (thanks to Kessler wheelchair clinic). I tried to wheel in it the other day with full upper body strength and it was a nightmare. The wheelchair vendors out here won’t ‘fix’ the chair because they didn’t fit him originally so our only option is buying a new one. Hopefully we won’t hit too many snags as we proceed. That’s about it...we hope everyone had a very safe and frightening Halloween!
