Thursday, December 28, 2006 - Took a Fall

We are just wrapping up a wonderful Christmas with the exception of what you see in the new photo. Yes folks, Rob has officially taken his first fall out of his wheelchair. He was trying to go outside of our apartment which has a step that I normally ‘pop a wheely’ him over. He felt like trying it by himself and well...it didn’t quite work out the way he planned and he ended up being catapulted out of the chair onto his face:( He has a few scrapes on his knuckles from trying to break the fall and a bit of a shiner under his eye in addition to the multiple scrapes shown in the photo. He is okay, all in all. I saw the whole thing happen from behind and I had some serious heart palpitations. Thankfully my brother Braden was there to pick him up off the cement driveway. Bet he’ll never forget to put that seatbelt on again! We’ve spent the last few days touring around San Diego with the family. We are a bit sad the holiday is over but we are hoping that by next Christmas Rob will not have to worry about putting on his seatbelt or getting out of the apartment safelysmile He is doing such amazing things with the walker these days. He can actually take steps with BOTH legs without needing any help for about 20-30 steps (last post I believe he was only taking about 3 steps with the left before needing help). Santa brought Rob a piece of equipment that enables him to post video on the web so you all will be able to see some footage soon (finally). We also want to thank everyone for the beautiful holiday cards and donations. Your tremendous support has enabled Rob to exceed all of our expectations. Love you all!
p.s. we added a few photos at the bottom of the gallery.

Friday, December 22, 2006 - Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays! It has certainly felt like Christmas weather here in So. California over the last few days requiring a trip to the store to buy some long sleeve shirts! The temperature has dipped into the 30’s at night and guess who doesn’t have heat in their apartment? Luckily, we do have a fire place and a snuggly dog so we’ve survived. It really is amazing how much heat a dog can give off especially when they sleep under the covers. Both Rob and I have woken up many times during the past few nights to steal back our covers from Ms. Marley. And no she is not spoiled AT ALLsmile Last weekend, we took Marley to a spaniel social where she played with 5 other blond cocker spaniels. It was pretty fun once all the dogs stopped growling at Rob’s wheelchair. We sometimes forget how scary a wheelchair can seem to dogs and small children. This week, Rob had a follow up appointment with the eye doctor and guess what...he confirmed that Rob does have 20/15 vision now. Not too much progress this week at Project Walk..in fact yesterday Rob had to leave his workout session after only being there for 30 minutes due to some problems in the gastrointestinal department(wink, wink, nod, nod). He was pretty upset about it, rightfully so and spent the rest of the afternoon/evening in bed. So today is a new day. We anxiously await the arrival of my family for the holidays and are hoping that the snow situation in Denver does not cause any problems. We hope everyone has safe travels over the next week.
p.s. almost forgot...I posted a photo of Rob standing at the bathroom sink to brush his teeth. He was able to do this for the first time this week. YEAH!!!
