Tuesday, October 23, 2007 - Update from Carlsbad

Mandy took this photo of me yesterday.  What a strange few days it been.  We are ok and keeping ourselves informed about the fires progress.  The area of Carlsbad where we are is, as of this writing, not under direct threat though they have issued a voluntary evacuation. If we do end up having to evacuate, Mandy, of course, has already packed our bags, set aside emergency rations, filled up the car and prepared the animals, so it should be smooth.  Project Walk was closed yesterday, today and probably for the rest of the week. The scope of this disaster is amazing.  Sunday night Mandy and I went to bed early and hadn’t watched tv all day, so when we got the call Monday morning that PW was closed, I at first thought it was a joke. Then Mandy opened the curtains and there was a wall of smoke.  The air quality is terrible, ash everywhere. It’s windy and acrid and your eyes burn so I’ve been spending most of the time inside either watching the news, stretching or on the internet.  I hear a bunch of people, maybe 20,000 are without power, over 500,000 evacuated.  I’ll post again if we end up having to leave, I’m working on a video about the Run 4 Robbie fundraiser and Benefit dinner, also on some steps to recovery video. Hopefully, under house arrest, I will make some headway on these projects and share them with you soon

Saturday, October 20, 2007 - Benefit Dinner Photos

Here are the photos from the 2nd Annual Benefit Dinner.  Thank you again to Tina for doing such an awesome job!  We thought it would be easiest to share the gallery as opposed to trying to upload them to the site. There are lots of photos to look through but there should be at least one of everyone who attended.  ENJOY!.

Rob has had a great week at Project Walk with the surprising return of a few muscle groups.  He discovered new strength in his left glute and he can now move both his legs from side to side while sitting.  He also recently mastered a few new stretching positions he wasn’t able to do before.  He’s definitely working hard and very motivated.  We are so thankful that his body is continuing to heal 2 years post.

We mailed out the thank you cards this Monday for the Run and Benefit Dinner.  Please let us know if you hear of someone who didn’t get one.  With over 400 cards going out, there’s bound to be a few errors.
