Welcome to the Updates Page

Thanks for checking in, so here’s the latest chapter....

Saturday, September 03, 2005 - Hi all

Hi all - it’s Liz again. I hadn’t seen Rob all week and what I saw when I arrived today was amazing! He was sitting up in a wheelchair, he waved, his color is great, and his eyes are truly full of life again. Even having read the updates all week, it was a treat to see him again with my own eyes.

We watched part of “Fight Club,” with surround sound courtesy of the universal remote Wayne brought for Rob’s TV - all of the roommates were out for a bit so we turned all of the tvs to the same channel and turned the volumes up. grin

Rob also got some programming done this afternoon (by dictating code to Wayne). He inherited a DVD player for his laptop and a ‘splitter’ for earphones so he and Mandy can both listen to movies at the same time instead of practicing reading lips. He scoffed at fried fish for lunch - chugging some Ensure and feeding himself some cookie ‘bouquet’ instead. And we both learned all about his new ipod. Not a bad day at all. (capped off by yummy Boston Market for dinner)

Labor Day is not a holiday at Kessler so PT and OT start again full throttle Monday morning. The weather is great here so we’re hoping to relax in some fresh air in the morning. Thanks again for all of you support and love. Have a safe holiday.

Friday, September 02, 2005 - Hello everyone

Hello everyone - Mom Wall here. Another red letter day for Rob. He got a new wheel chair, sort of a step between a manual and a motorized chair. He pushes himself but the effort is amplified by a motorized attachment. Still, a step forward towards independence. He did successfully feed himself pudding at his OT session. Also thanks to the folks at Empress who sent the cookie bouquet. Rob actually managed to feed himself on of the cookies even before the pudding lesson! They are so impressed with his progress that his doctor is having her interns go to therapy with Rob on Tuesday to observe his progress. So he now refers to himself as the poster child for OT and PT. Mandy is in Maryland for Heather’s wedding this weekend so I was on deck for most of today. Being somewhat technologically challenged I could not get the DVD player to function which was quite frustrating for both of us. I am definitely in need of some remedial instruction when it comes to IPODs DVD players and some computers. Oh well, perhaps it will force him to come back even faster. Anyone thinking of visiting, Saturday afternoon or anytime Sunday is best.
